Bernard Young

Bernard Young is an experienced professional poet and performer who leads writing workshops for children and adults. He has given hundreds of performances in a variety of settings (from prisons to pubs, leisure centres to libraries, art galleries to cake shops, as well as colleges, schools, playgrounds and supermarkets!). Bernard’s poems have been broadcast on local and national radio and feature in numerous anthologies of poetry for young readers. His specialism is primary school age.

Bernard’s latest book of poems for children, “What Are You Like?”, will be available to buy, and have signed by the author. It costs £5.99 and has over 80 tried and tested poems that Bernard regularly uses in primary schools for poetry performances and workshops.

Bernard will give a 30 minute performance suitable for a family audience. This will be followed by a fun family poetry writing workshop, where adults and children can write together with ideas and support from Bernard. You don’t have to come to the workshop, you can just watch the performance. But if you want to participate in the workshop, it is advisable to also come to the performance, as some of the poems performed will help to give writing ideas.

Hear one of Bernard’s poems below, for a taste of what to expect on the day!
